Leadership for Educational Supervisors

Course based on:

Leadership and Management for all Doctors (LMD) GMC (2012)

and the Medical Leadership Competencies Framework (MLCF)

 

Course Objectives

  1.  By the end of the training the participants will be able to describe some of the key differences between leadership and management  and be able to summarise the different skills that each require. They will be able to identify what motivates people and describe how leaders can adapt their leadership style to influence and engage others in the care team.
  2.  By the end of the training participants will be able to describe Action Centred Leadership (ACL) and its application to their own job roles as clinicians, and will be able to use ACL terminology to discuss what leadership means in the context of the roles of Higher Specialist Trainee doctors.
  3.  By the end of the training the participants will be able to identify opportunities for Higher Specialist Trainee doctors to demonstrate their leadership capability, be able to give clear and concise behavioural feedback on achievements and development needs, and to use feedback to tackle difficult situations and raise performance standards.
  4.  Evaluation is by observation and feedback by the facilitators and participants during the course, reflective templates during the course, and end of course evaluation forms completed at the end of the event (Kirkpatrick Levels 1 ands 2). Action planning sheets will be used to support transfer of learning into the workplace (Kirkpatrick Level 3).
